William N. Cantrell, President & CEO

William N. (Bill) Cantrell serves as president and chief executive officer of the Southern Gas Association (SGA) and its subsidiary, the Gas Machinery Research Council (GMRC). With more than 40 years of experience, he has become a trusted leader across the energy industry and developed a passion for working to advance the field. Bill leads SGA as the organization works to link people, ideas and information across the natural gas industry.

Previously, Bill served as president and chief executive officer at SourceGas, now part of Black Hills Corp., an SGA member company. In 2009, he led SGA as Chairman of the Board of Directors. Beginning his career at Tampa Electric Company, Bill advanced through several technical and senior management positions, including director of the merger transition with Peoples Gas Companies to become part of TECO Energy. He served as President of Peoples Gas Companies from 1997 to 2009.

He received a Master of Business Administration from the University of Tampa and a Bachelor of Science in electrical engineering from Georgia Institute of Technology.


Jane Butler, Vice President

Jane Butler serves as vice president of finance and events at SGA. She also serves as the staff liaison for SGA's subsidiary, the Gas Machinery Research Council. In addition to leading the events and finance teams, Jane also serves as controller for both SGA and GMRC and manages the associate membership.

She has been associated with SGA since 2002 and brings more than 25 years of accounting experience to the organization.   


Gary W. Hines, Vice President, PE, CAE

Gary W. Hines serves as vice president of learning and professional development. Prior to joining SGA, Gary worked for Southern Star Central Gas Pipeline, Inc. in Owensboro, Kentucky.  There he held the responsibility of oversight for the operations control center and back office measurement functions. Gary has fifteen years of experience in the natural gas transmission pipeline business with the last ten being in various positions of management including operations, gas control and measurement. Prior to his tenure in management, he has held various positions in project engineering, project management, and environmental remediation programs at both Southern Star and The Williams Companies in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Gary holds a Bachelor of Science in civil engineering from Missouri University of Science & Technology (Missouri S&T) and a Master in Business Administration from Colorado State University. Gary is a registered professional engineer in the state of Missouri and has also earned his Certified Association Executive credential.


Kent Hobart, Vice President, CAE

Joining the SGA staff in 2012, Kent Hobart serves as vice president of content development and volunteer engagement. He brings more than 25 years of industry experience with him to SGA, including time with natural gas, electric, water and investor-owned and municipal utilities. Included in his broad base of experience are executive level leadership roles in sales, operations and customer service with TECO Peoples Gas.

Kent received a Bachelor of Science from Florida Southern College and has earned his Certified Association Executive credential.
