This workshop will explore how management of steel pipe specifications, welding procedures, flaw assessment and repair practices can influence long-term pipeline integrity.  This seminar is targeted at engineers, pipeline integrity specialists, corrosion specialists, and transmission operating personnel.  The following topics will be addressed:

1) Steel Pipe degradation and failure mechanisms; corrosion, mechanical damage, manufacturing and fabrication flaws, fatigue and other cracking mechanisms, brittle failure vs ductile overload, high strain conditions, etc.

2) Introduction to steel pipe manufacturing and specifications; current and historical manufacturing practices and pipe grades.

3) Pipe specifications; when are the requirements of API 5L adequate and what are the benefits of supplemental requirements?

4) The three components to a successful welding project; qualified procedures, qualified welders, appropriate inspection.

5) Assessment and repair of damaged, pressurized piping; What kind of damage is it? How severe is it? What repair options and welding practices are appropriate?
