1:30 to 5:00 pm            Workshop: Planning for a Smart Meter Project

This workshop will detail the decision processes generally used by several utilities to move forward with their projects. This is a compilation of processes and best practices used by successful utilities moving forward with an enterprise wide deployment of AMI technologies. In this workshop, the instructor will offer their own “lessons learned” while helping to develop AMI strategies, gain management approval, and move forward a deployment decision.  Focusing heavily on Industry experience, the course objectives are to share strategy and decision making processes, provide the key “industry best practices”, and provide participants with a framework that can be adapted and enable their own project’s success. Topics to be covered:

    • Initial AMI investigations - requirements, and technology research and development.
    • What is AMI and how does it work, what are the potential  potential benefits and costs, how will could change the business, and how well will AMI align with the utility’s strategic goals.
    • How a business case is developed.
    • Leveraging or replacing exisiting AMR systems
    • Field testing and verification.
